Union Health Minister JP Nadda will lay the foundation stones for two tertiary Cancer hospitals at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur soon. The hospitals are expected to give fillip to ongoing war on cancer launched by Punjab Government.
This decision was taken by Nadda during a meeting with Punjab Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani in New Delhi.
Nadda also issued instructions to his staff to expedite the proceedings in this regard besides asking Jyani to work out the plan for laying the foundations at the earliest.
Accompanied by Secretary Health Vinni Mahajan, Jyani apprised Nadda of measures being taken by state to make Rural and Urban Health Missions a big success besides covering entire population under quality health care.
He informed the Minister that Punjab was being providing free treatment to Cancer patients in government as well as empanelled hospitals from Chief Minister’s cancer relief fund.
Jyani said that there was an estimated census of more than 34000 deaths due to cancer in last few years while more than 20,000 persons were still under this distress.
He said that cancer care units being setup at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur would prove a big relief to the patients afflicting cancer since the number of patients in Malwa belt was so high.
Expressing gratitude to the Union Health Minister for his gesture to establish Cancer hospitals at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur, Jayani said Punjab was emerging as the State with most advanced cancer cure facilities, and these upcoming hospitals, would help the State in its ongoing crusade against cancer.
Vinni Mahajan informed Nadda that Punjab has improved a lot in Infant and Maternal mortality rate by increasing institutional deliveries through mass awareness campaigns.
