Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda was on Thursday re-elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha for a second term from Himachal Pradesh.

Nadda received the certificate of nomination from electoral returning officer at HP Vidhan  Sabha in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. State BJP president Satpal Satti, Speaker Dr Rajeev Bindal and Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj were among others to congratulate Nadda.

The Union Minister was the only candidate in the fray fro the Rajya Sabha seat. On March 11, the Congress had announced that it would not contest the seat.

The victory of the BJP candidate was a foregone conclusion as it has strength of 44 in the 68-member House, followed by the Congress with 21, BPI (M) with 1 and two independent candidates.

On his re-election, JP Nadda said, “PM Modi and Amit Shah had trusted me and my capabilities to give me a second term from the State which had recently seen the return of the BJP to power.”

It is our commitment to see Himachal get maximum projects and assistance from the Centre, he added.

Notably, Nadda was elected unopposed in the year 2012 too.
