The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved two projects costing Rs 28.17 crore for providing raw water by pumping for 17 water works schemes in Haryana.

The Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Banwari lal on Friday said that over Rs  21.17 crore have been approved for providing raw water arrangements by pumping for 13 water works schemes in district Hisar.

He said that about Rs seven crore have been approved for providing raw water arrangements by pumping for four water works of villages Niyana, Kharar Alipur, Kulana and Mayyar from Balsamand Branch at RD 42800-l district Hisar.

Banwari lal said that the first project was conceived and got approved from NABARD to provide raw water from assured and sustainable point of availability of raw water in the canal network for these 13 waterworks. This project which would be completed within three years would benefit present population of 60,214 persons and prospective population of 90,324 persons for 30 years, said he.

The Minister said that the implementation of these projects would go a long way in providing a sustainable drinking water source for 15 villages of district Hisar.

He said that a prospective population of about 90,324 persons would be benefited with safe drinking water, which would have a direct effect in improving the health of the people, leading to improvement in the socio-economic conditions and productivity.

He added that it had been observed that during several years in the past there was an acute shortage of raw water at the water works from the feeding canals, due to tail end reaches of canal networks and also due to drastically reduction of raw water availability in canals. The existing structures at all the 13 water works were capable of generating drinking water at the rate of more than 70 litres Per Capita Per Day  (lPCD) for the present population of the year 2016, he said.
