'Movie does not hurt sentiments of any caste'

A day after some Sikh organisations sought a ban on the movie of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Messenger of God (MSG), the Dera management on Monday said the movie does not hurt the sentiments of any caste or community.

“This film is based on ethical codes and will held in eradicating social evils such as female foeticide and drug addiction,” said Pawan Insaan, spokesperson of Dera Sacha Sauda.

Sikh organisations, including Akal Takht, the temporal seat of Sikh community, had objected to the release of the trailer of the film last week. Akal Takht head Gurbachan Singh said the sect head is facing murder and rape charges and his film is meant to “confuse” the people.  “The content of the film will hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims,” said jathedar Gurbachan Singh.

The sect head is set to star in the film Messenger of God (MSG), set to be released next month where he himself is in the lead role and has also sang songs for the movie and has even directed the film. Several organisations All India Sikh Students’ Federation (AISSF) sought ban on the film from the Punjab Government, which is to release early next year.

Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, AISSF chief said the Centre and the State Government both should impose a ban on the release of the film. He also threatened to go to high court for ban of this film.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) president and hardliner Sikh leader, Simranjit Singh Mann has also sought ban on the film and alleged that the dera chief was trying to tease Sikhs and they (Sikhs) will not allow the screening of the film.

However, Pawan Insaan said, “The persons who are opposing the film, should see it first....nobody can judge the movie only from its trailer”.  MSG shows the Dera head wearing flashy outfits and performing stunts like emerging from ice and dancing and singing.  Insaan said the sect head is working to eradicate social evils, including contributing to cleanliness drive for a long time and all these have been shown in the movie. He said the film is set to be released on January 16 at Mumbai. “We request the people to see the movie and judge thereafter,” said Insaan.
