With a view to honour and encourage the girl child and spread the message of "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao", Haryana Government has planned to invite the most educated girl in each village to hoist the National Flag on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.
Haryana Women and Child Minister, Kavita Jain, while addressing a state-level meeting to review the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme, organised by the BJP here said that positive results of the programme, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Panipat on January 22, 2015, are becoming visible and the sex ratio at birth had crossed 903 girls per 1,000 boys in the state.
The meeting was attended by delegations from Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
The BBBP programme has been extended to cover the districts of Gurgaon, Jind, Faridabad, Hissar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Panchkula and Palwal. The Chief Minister Manohar lal, and the people of the state accepted the challenge to promote the girl child and improve the skewed sex ratio, and made the programme a grand success, Jain said.
She added that under the programme, the State Government is strictly enforcing the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act. More than 300 cases of illegal sex determination through ultrasound have so far been registered in the state. Doctors and all social, political, religious and non-governmental organisations are being associated with this programme, said the Minister.
Apart from this, the government has also implemented several schemes for the protection, assistance and encouragement of the girl child, which has brought about positive change in the mindset of the people, she added.
