Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh on Tuesday alleged that the “gangsters are running a parallel government in Punjab”, while accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led State Government of pruning his son’s security and then publicising it that led to his tragic murder.
“The gangsters are running a parallel government...my son became a victim to rivalry of gangsters even though he had nothing to do with any group or gangster,” he said in his first public appearance after the brutal killing of his son Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala.
Balkaur Singh, who has been inaugurating a local project on villagers’ request, claimed that no less than 50-60 persons wanted to kill his son, and eight attempts were made to attack him during the elections but he could not be harmed. “Despite all this, his security was downgraded,” he said, adding that the Government not only scaled down his security but made it public.
Adding, he said: “We were lucky that he escaped during elections as at least eight attempts had gone awry. During elections, once Warring (Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring) had asked me how is campaigning, and I had said let my son remain alive, we are least concerned with win or loss.”
He added that many people might be dragging his son’s name having links with gangsters but he had nothing to do with anyone. “He had to pay the price of getting recognition across the world, many wanted to spoil his career,” hesaid.
CONGRESS SEEKS ANSWER FROM CM
Coming down heavily at AAP-led Punjab Government, senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday sought answers from the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Government to serious charges levelled by Sidhu Moosewala’s father for the grave security lapse of his son that led to his murder.
Randhawa also expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of investigations into Moosewala’s murder, saying till now, the government appears to be completely clueless and is only dependent on the claims made by a foreign-based gangster.
Supporting the charges of Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Randhawa demanded that the responsibility be fixed as to who were the people who decided to prune his security. This was a grave intelligence failure on part of the Mann Government, he said.
“While the assassins were very much in his village and surrounding and conducting recce of Moosewala’s house, the Mann Government decided to withdraw his security at that time only,” Randhawa pointed out, asking, how come the intelligence could not make out that he was under such a serious threat.
He added that the assassins might have been planning the murder for quite some time and despite that, the state police could not assess the actual threat perception of the late singer. Had the state police acted responsibly the precious life would have been saved, he said.
