Monsoon session of HP House likely to be stormy

The monsoon session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly starting on Wednesday is likely to be a stormy affair with both Opposition and ruling remaining at loggerheads over different issues like mass scale transfer postings in the State and no major policy coming up in larger interest of people.

BJP which is observing week long ‘Badla-Badli’ protest week will be staging dharna on August 23 at Vidhan Sabha against the mass scale transfer postings ordered by the Virbhadra Singh Government in the State. State BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti said that Government is engaged in vendetta politics targeting the employees and transferring them without considering even the humane grounds. “State Government has also been targeting sports institutions like Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) which have brought laurels to the State,” added Satti.

Meanwhile, Congress held legislative party meeting at ruling lounge of assembly on Tuesday night to discuss the strategies and to blunt the attack of Opposition. The State Government is likely to bring seven bills in the monsoon session. BJP also held its meeting of legislators at Hotel Peterhoff and chalked out strategies to counter the State Government. “Government is entirely acting with political vendetta with no public works being done in past seven months,” said leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal.

He said that when the last time Congress Government was in power from 2003-2007, then entire Government machinery tried to overtake the HPCA and now they are trying to malign the sports institution of national-international repute. The sugar issue is also expected to feature in the assembly session with Opposition likely to seek answer for non-availability of sugar in Public Distribution System (PDS) depots for past three months.

On the other hand, Congress Government will try to table the MlAs salary bill which was withdrawn by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh during the budget session due to the protest and walk out of opposition. Sources said that State Government was in no hurry to bring the MlAs salary bill and if this time also, the same thing happens, the bill could be delayed further.
