Mohali's infra to be upgraded

To upgrade its 20-year-old existing infrastructure in Mohali town, the Punjab State Power Corporation limited (PSPCl) will be spending Rs 40 crore under the R-APDRP (Re-Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme).

“The existing electrical system was erected around 20 years ago. But due to rapid expansion of town and in view of the ever-increasing electrical demand of the town and to meet the future load growth, PSPCl is spending Rs 40 crores under R-APDRP to upgrade the existing infrastructure in Mohali town,” said the PSPCl deputy chief engineer (DS), Mohali, RS Saini.

Under the programme, upgradation of old conductor of existing lT and HT lines is being undertaken along with bifurcation of existing 11KV feeders to improve voltage level.

Besides, augmentation of existing overloaded transformers and new transformers have been proposed to deload the existing transformers. Meter shifting outside consumer’s premises, as a directive of the state power regulator — Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Authority (PSERC) — is also being undertaken to reduce instances of power theft etc.

The replacement of mechanical meters with electronic meters to reduce transmission and distribution (T&D) losses due to creeping of old meters, implementation of DT Metering for real time monitoring of transformer load parameters etc, are also in upgradation plan.

Saini said that as the required work involves switching on or off of power supply and working on power lines in off conditions, for smooth implementation of the scheme, residents are requested to bear with power shutdowns imposed by PSPCl for system strengthening and improvement.

“For the information of esteemed consumers of PSPCl and residents of Mohali town, regular press notes will be got published in leading print media regarding power shutdowns,” he said.
