Residents of Haryana's Faridabad city will be able to enjoy the Delhi Metro services with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) line on Sunday.
The extension of Delhi Metro till Faridabad, an industrial hub in Haryana, will ease commuting between both cities. Nearly 2,00,000 people travel between both cities daily, clogging the connecting roads, said a Haryana government spokesman here on Friday.
He said that built indigenously to the extent of 95 per cent and put on the track within the sanctioned cost, the Metro would address these problems by siphoning off a major portion of the road traffic. It will provide people a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable transport facility.
Non-availability of such system has caused congestion on the roads and resulted in high cost and long hours of journey, high consumption of fossil fuel, and environmental pollution, said he.
The nine stations in this section namely, Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector – 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar, mark the extension. All these are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi–Mathura Road (NH-2).
The spokesman said that additional entry and exit from across the road (NH-2) through foot over bridges (FOB) had been provided as an added facility to commuters. The FOBs at the stations are being provided with lifts and escalators in addition to stairs for the convenience of commuters.
The number of riders availing themselves of the facility every day is estimated at about two lakh in 2015. The project has been completed within the sanctioned cost of Rs2,494 crore, said he.
Industrial development and proximity to Delhi has made Faridabad clock steep growth in human numbers, including that of floating population, during the last two decades. Faridabad’s high population growth rate, coupled with high economic potential, has resulted in an ever-increasing demand for fast and efficient transport service within Faridabad and from Faridabad to Delhi.
line 6 of Delhi Metro from Central Secretariat to Badarpur was commissioned under Phase II of Delhi Metro projects in 2010-11. Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) section of fully elevated 13.875-km length is the extension of this line at the southern end. It was sanctioned by the Central Government on September 13, 2011, added the spokesperson.
There are nine stations in this section - Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar - which is an extension of the Metro's Violet line, currently running from ITO to Badarpur.
All these stations are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2).The project has been completed within the sanctioned cost of Rs2,494 crore. The metro line is 13.875 km long.
