Modi to address five rallies in Punjab today

In what could bring a momentum to the BJP-SAD campaign in Punjab, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would address five election rallies in Punjab on Friday.

Modi is scheduled to address a total of five rallies in the State, starting from Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, ludhiana, Bathinda and Amritsar. Even as the SAD-BJP is jubilant and claiming that Modi wave would see the alliance through in the State, Congress said that it won’t help the party.

AICC general secretary and party affairs in-charge in Punjab, Shakeel Ahmad claimed that Modi’s visit was not going to boost poll prospects of SAD-BJP candidates as there was a “strong anti-incumbency” against Akali Government in the State.

He claimed that Congress would bag 10 out of total 13 seats of the State. During 2009 polls, the party bagged eight seats, with Akali Dal securing four and its ally, the BJP, just one seat. Ahmed, who is also in-charge of the Punjab affairs of the party, said that each section of the society in the State had become “sick” of Akali-BJP Government’s

“failures” and negative style of functioning.
