Marking his first visit to Punjab after assuming office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay homage to the martyrs — Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev — at Hussainiwala, where their last rites were performed in 1931 on March 23. Modi will be the second Prime Minister after Rajiv Gandhi, who came in March 1985, to visit Hussainiwala — after a gap of nearly three-decades. However, Modi had also visited the memorial in February 2006 when he was the Gujarat Chief Minister.
At Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district, the last rites of the three freedom fighters were held after they were hanged secretly in lahore on this day. “The preparations for his visit to Hussainiwala, where he will address a ‘Shridhanjali Samaroh’, are in full swing. He will land at Amritsar airport on Monday afternoon and travel to Hussainiwala by helicopter,” said the State BJP president Kamal Sharma.
He said that the Prime Minister will then visit the Sikh holy city of Amritsar to pay obeisance at Harmandir Sahib, the holiest of Sikh shrines which is popularly known as the Golden Temple, and at the nearby Durgiana Mandir. Modi will also visit the Jallianwala Bagh, where hundreds of innocent Indians attending a peaceful rally, were shot at by British troops on April 13, 1919.
The security measures are being taken by the district administration, besides the teams from Special Protection Group are doing their job. The security agencies are on high alert and leaving no stone unturned to avoid any breach in the security.
