'Modi Govt didn't fulfill even a single promise'

Taking a jibe at BJP’s ‘achhe din’ jingle, the Congress party on Friday said that this “has now become a satire for the general public”.

The party, carrying out a campaign across the country analysing one-year of the Narendra Modi Government, maintained that it has failed miserably to fulfill even a single promise it made to the people before the lok Sabha elections. “In the past one year, Modi government’s graph has come down drastically in the history of polity of the country,” said senior Congress leader Rajeev Shukla.

“Modi had miserably failed to fulfill a single promise made by the BJP in its election manifesto,” he said alleging that the first year of Modi government went in just putting in place the policies and programmes initiated by the previous UPA government. “They promised everything without even thinking whether it could be done, and after coming to power, they have realized that they promised impossible. And now, they are adopting all the policies and bills of the UPA government and there’s nothing of their own,” he said.

He said that the popularity of Modi government was so much on decline, and the criticism of previous Manmohan Singh government started in the eighth year of its rule. Shukla said that the Modi government has been doing grave injustice to the farmers in the country as “no compensation is being paid to the farmers whose crop had been destroyed by hailstorms and rains”.

“They have strongly stressed on implementing minimum support price formula as per Swaminathan report, but that has not been done…there is shortage of urea, pending compensation and now diesel process have also increased twice in a week…Congress is staging its protest against government’s anti-farmers’ face,” he said. Despite rates of diesel coming down internationally, the Modi government had hiked fuel price twice in one week, he said adding that the one-year rule of Modi government was dismal and it was dangerous for the country.

Speaking on Congress’ debacle in the lok Sabha polls last year, he said that the party failed to propagate its people-friendly policies and programmes. “We (Congress) couldn’t do marketing of our programmes,” he said.
