Accusing the Congress-led UPA government of giving "step-motherly treatment" to Punjab, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said that the pace of development of the State will double if Narendra Modi is elected as the Prime Minister.
Addressing a rally to kick-start the election campaign of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from Faridkot lok Sabha constituency, Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, Badal asked the people to elect all the 13 SAD-BJP candidates for the lok Sabha. "There has been a strong wave in favour of Narendra Modi. Once Modi is elected Prime Minister he will ensure double the pace of development in Punjab," he said.
Badal said that there has been a strong wave in favour of Modi and the Congress would disappear from the political map of the country after the lok Sabha elections. He claimed that the Akali-BJP combine Government has done a marvellous job in the State despite the "step-motherly treatment" by the Congress-led UPA Government to Punjab.
Badal told the voters that the time had come when the party would play an important role in setting up an NDA Government where Punjab would have its say at the Centre under the leadership of Modi. The Chief Minister said that Modi had already promised to compensate all the losses Punjab suffered because of discrimination by the Congress-led UPA Government.
In Punjab, the Akalis have fielded their candidates for ten seats while its ally BJP for the remaining three. The election for the 13 lok Sabha seats from Punjab will be held on April 30.
