The Punjab and Haryana High Court here on Thursday granted bail to Haryana MlA and former Transport Minister Om Prakash Jain accused of abetting suicide of former sarpanch of Kambopura village (Karnal), Karam Singh in 2011. Jain is behind the bars and is lodged at Ambala central jail.
The nephew of the deceased had said that MlA from Assandh and former chief parliamentary secretary, Zile Ram Sharma and then Transport Minister OP Jain were responsible for the death of his uncle, whose body was found near the National Dairy and Research Institute on June 7, 2011.
Initially, the State police had not only ignored the complaint against the accused but also given clean chit to them due to their political influence.
later on with the help of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the investigation was restarted by the CBI and it had submitted its charge sheet on October 4, 2012 after thorough investigation.
Both accused remained at large for a long time but surrendered after non-bailable warrants were issued.
