Initiating steps to check the illegal mining activities in Mohali district, the Deputy Commissioner Gurpeeet Kaur Sapra on Monday directed to impound the vehicles which do not have registration numbers.
“If the registration number is not displayed on the vehicle or machinery and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has also not given any detail regarding such vehicle or machinery to the District Mining Officer, such vehicle or machinery would be impounded with the coordination of SDM and RTA,” said Sapra while presiding over the meeting regarding implementation of Sand Management System as pilot project in the district.
Directions have been issued to the Executive Engineer-cum-District Mining Officer to collect the details of vehicles and other machinery being used for mining, she said adding that the District Mining Officer will coordinate with the RTA in this regard. “So that, whenever there are any cases of illegal mining, the owners of the vehicles and machinery will be also booked,” she added.
