In Haryana, there is a requirement of transport services for 33 lakh people, whereas the capacity of Transport Department is for 13 lakh people, said State Transport Minister Krishan lal Panwar on Wednesday.
He said that at present, the capacity of Roadways is less than the requirement of bus facilities. But, the State Government has taken many steps for providing the people with maximum transport facilities.
He said that soon, the number of buses would be about 5,000 in the fleet of Haryana Roadways. For this, the recruitment process of 636 posts of technical staff has been initiated. The Department is also recruiting 725 drivers against regular posts for driving the new buses added in the fleet of Roadways.
The State Government would time to time review the need to add new buses in the fleet of Roadways and recruitment of staff, he added.
He said that the State Government has no intention for the privatisation of Transport Department. The State Government has formulated a scheme to drive buses on per kilometer basis so that the people would have sufficient availability of buses.
However, the permit for running these buses would be with the government and the conductors of these buses would be from the Department. These buses would run under Director General of the Department who would also fix the route of these buses, said Panwar.
The Minister added, “Besides this, the Roadways employees would check whether these buses are running regularly according to the rules.”
