Milkfed takes leap forward for optimally utilising solar power in milk

Published on:

In a bid to make optimum utilisation of solar energy in the milk or food processing industry in Punjab, a new technology of Heat Pump (EHP) has been introduced by the State milk corporative — Milkfed — at its Milk Plant in Chandigarh.

“Milkfed, in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) conducted a workshop to promote energy efficient technology in Milk Processing, Food Processing and other Hospitality areas. Milkfed with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency, Ministry of Environment and Forests, has introduced a new EHP technology at its milk plant in Chandigarh,” said Milkfed managing director Alaknanda Dayal. She said the key feature of EHP technology was that it performs simultaneous electrical chilling and heating operations besides offering an opportunity to milk or food processing industries to cut down their energy consumption. The installation of EHP at Verka assumes significance as it has resulted in 30 per cent energy savings in its application as compared to the base figures and reduction in CO2 emission by 62.60 tons (about 38 per cent).
