Milkfed, Punjab’s leading dairy cooperative, on Thursday slashed price of ‘Verka’ Desi Ghee by Rs10 per litre or kg.

Keeping in view the stock position, procurement trend, market scenario and the upcoming festival of Baisakhi, Milkfed has reduced prices of Verka ghee both in consumer as well as bulk packing by Rs10 per litre or kg “with effect from April 2, 2015”.

With the reduced rates, the carton pack of Verka ghee would now be available at Rs 330 per kg. likewise, the tin pack of 'desi ghee' would be available at Rs340 per kg instead of currently Rs350.

On an average, the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation limited (Milkfed) sells around 4,000 tonne of ghee every year out of which nearly 700 tonne is exported to foreign countries.

This decision was seen as a major consumer friendly initiative by the leading milk cooperative as normally the price of ghee increases during summer season due to less supply of milk.

“With the reduction of prices of ghee by Milkfed, the consumers would get this product at affordable prices in the coming season,” said spokesman.
