Miffed over arrest of youths, Jat leader threatens stir again

All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) national president Yashpal Malik on Wednesday threatened the Haryana Government to launch another agitation in the State if the Government fails to release the innocent youths arrested in connection with violence during the Jat quota stir in February.

While addressing Jat Nyaya Rally at Fatehabad, Malik said that the BJP-led State Government has backed out of its earlier promise to release the arrested innocent youths and is forcing the Jats to launch another agitation.

These arrested youths have no connection with any damage done to the Government and private property during Jat agitation in Haryana, said Malik.

He added that a committee has been formed to decide the future course of action. “We will now hold a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on May 10 to discuss our next move,” he said.

Heavy police and paramilitary forces were deployed in Fatehabad in view of AIJASS rally.

In February’s Jat quota stir, 30 people had lost their lives while more than 300 were injured in the State.

After the Jat stir, the BJP-led State Government had in March passed a Bill in the State Assembly to provide reservation to Jats and five other communities in Government jobs and education.

The Bill proposed to give 10 per cent reservation to these communities in Government and Government-aided educational institutions and Class-III and IV Government jobs. It also envisaged 6 per cent reservation for them in BC 'C' category in Class-I and II jobs.

The Jat community, however, is now demanding the withdrawal of all cases registered against Jats during the agitation and release of innocent youths arrested in connection with violence during the Jat stir.
