Mewat gets 12 gynaecologists and 12 ENT doctors

To provide better health services to the residents of Haryana’s Mewat district, which has extremely poor health indicators, Haryana Government has deputed 12 gynaecologists and an equal  number of ENT doctors to serve in Civil Hospital, Mandi Khera in Mewat.

They have been drawn from different health institutions in the State to render their services in Mewat for a month each, said Health Minister Anil Vij on Friday.

He said that  under this special arrangement, every month two doctors ie a Gynecologist and an ENT doctor, would mandatorily render their service in the Civil Hospital, Mandi Khera  as per their duty roster  from May 2016 to April 2017.

High infant mortality rate, high maternal mortality rate, low female literacy rate, low children immunisation rate continue to exist in the Muslim-dominated district of Mewat due to socio-cultural taboos.

Vij said that during the last Vidhan Sabha Session, some MlAs had raised the issue of shortage of doctors in Mewat and in the same session, he had assured to resolve this problem.

During this period, in case  any doctor is transferred from the place of present posting even then he would have to remain on duty in Mewat for that assigned period. A doctor would again be deputed for Mewat only after all such doctors in the district have served in Mewat, he said.

A day before, the Health Minister had said that a permanent transparent transfer policy would soon be rolled out for doctors and other staff of the department. A software has been developed for the same.

Admitting that there is an acute shortage of doctors in the State, he had said that about 300 medical officers have been recruited by the present Government. The Government is going to recruit more doctors in the State. In addition, a separate cadre of specialists is being made in the department so as to ensure all kind of heath care services to the patients, Vij had said.
