Mewat gangrape: local leaders to hold another mahapanchayat on Oct 8

Dissatisfied over Haryana Government’s action into the Mewat’s double-murder case and alleged gangrape of two girls, the local leaders have convened another mahapanchayat on October 8 in the district.

The mahapanchayat will be held in Nuh on October 8 which will be attended by leaders from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, said INlD’s MlA from Nuh, Zakir Hussain on Monday.

Accusing the Manohar lal Khattar Government of trying to save the accused in the case and hatching a conspiracy to disturb people in Mewat, Zakir Hussain said that a number of our demands related to double-murder case and alleged gangrape, have not been accepted by the State Government.

The MlA said that earlier also, the Government had tried to disturb peace in the district during the festival Eid when biryani samples were taken to check beef.

Notably, the State Government had recently written to the Centre recommending a CBI inquiry into Mewat’s double-murder case and alleged gangrape of two girls in which the victims had alleged the role of cow vigilantes in the state.

Though one of the rape victims had been alleging that the accused were members of some cow-vigilante group, police have so far not corroborated the victim’s allegation.

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) had also recently asked the Haryana Government to take measures to promote communal harmony in the state while remarking that the August Dingerheri murder and rape incident had shaken the faith of people. The Commission also questioned the handling of the case by the police.

On the fateful night of August 25, the assailants had first killed a couple, who were 40 years of age, with sharp edged weapons and then injured six other members of the family, Among the injured included two women, who were gangraped by the assailants.
