Met department forecasts heavy rain in hills today

Amidst the rising temperatures in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department has given a soothing forecast of widespread rains in parts of the State.

The forecast says that for next 24 hours, the middle and foothills in the State were likely to receive heavy rain with thundershowers at many places.

The higher reaches may have rain as well as snowfall at certain places.

As per the Meteorological department, light cyclonic movements and western disturbance were likely to cause rainfall in the State as favourable conditions are developing for further advancement of southwest-monsoon into remaining parts of east-Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours.

Rapid advancement of southwest monsoon is very likely into most parts of north-west India including entire Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir during next 4-5 days. This is due to north-west movement of low pressure, which is currently located over north-west Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood and its likely interaction with approaching western disturbance.

In the past 24 hours, the State received moderate to heavy rainfall. Jogindernagar received  maximum 84 mm rainfall, Mandi 78 mm, Nahan of Sirmaour & Dharamshala of Kangra 49 mm , Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur 43 mm, Bijahi in Mandi 34 mm, Palampur of Kangra 25 mm, Gaggal 18 mm, Pandoh of Mandi 5 mm, Seobagh of Kullu four mm, Shimla and Khadrala 3 mm each.
