Medicos legal Action Group has filed a formal complaint to the Director Health Services UT and Deputy Commissioner regarding a camp organised recently by a Delhi-based doctor for removal of gall stones without surgery.
The doctor also claimed to treat Hepatitis B & C with his medicines. The complaint has been lodged taking into view advertisements appearing in newspapers with assurances like “100 per cent money back guarantee (terms and conditions apply)”.
Dr Neeraj Nagpal, convener, Medicos legal Action Group (MlAG) said people should not believe in misleading claims and added the fact was that so called doctors with such claims gave tablets (which contain stones) had to be taken in front of the doctor with a particular elixir, sometimes Gangajal and stools have to be screened thereafter for a few days.
“Sure enough stones will be retrieved in stools. Sometimes these ‘doctors’ connive with particular ultrasonologists who will give report of decrease in number of gall stones after treatment to satisfy the patient. This is an old tactic and all surgeons have operated on such patients who have already tried these remedies and have been victims of such frauds”, he added. Dr Nagpal said that provisions of Drugs & Magic Remedies Act are clear and false claims of treatment of gall stones, which is mentioned in schedule of diseases under the Act, is punishable.
Dr Sandeep Dhavan, Trustee of MlAG said it is natural for a patient who is told that there is no other cure except surgery, or for a cancer patient who is told that there is no cure that he will try alternative methods. But trying genuine alternative methods like Ayurveda, Unani and even true Homeopathy is different from succumbing to frauds committed by tricksters like the one who held this camp, he said.
