The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) has been passing proposals for new projects in city with a lightning speed but has failed to translate the projects into reality.
As per the official records, MCC since the year 2006 has approved more than 600 proposals of various hues, however out of these only 15 per cent proposals have been completed to date, 47 proposals have been kept on hold due to several reasons, while 484 proposals are still under progress.
Subhash Chawla, Mayor of Chandigarh said, “The ideas and the proposals take time to be executed. When the tenure of one Mayor ends before the execution of a proposal, the next Mayor comes with different set of priorities which creates problem for the implementation of proposals.”
In 2007, MCC had proposed constructing a multi-level parking at sector-17 to provide a hassle free parking facility for the people going to Sector-17 plaza. However, the corporation has failed to execute it.
After the success of modernising laundry (Dhobighat) at sector-15, MCC in the year 2008 had also approved the proposal of modernisation of other laundries of city, including those in Sector-7, 19, 20, 22, 27 and 32.
The idea was to make the city free from Water pollution, water wastage and to save people from epidemics caused due to polluted water. However, the Corporation has failed so far to implement the proposal in the other sectors of the city.
The Food Street service is another such project. Food Street was proposed to be constructed at Sector-48 by MCC in the year 2009 and also the foundation stone was laid in the same year. However, it is yet to see the light of the day.
