With the aim of developing communities and maintaining a clean, sustainable, and vibrant city, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) on Sunday set up the ‘PRARAMBH’ stall — an eco-friendly and sustainable products initiative in collaboration with Arpan self-help group (SHG) — outside Sai Temple, Sector 29, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Additionally, a comprehensive cleaning drive of worship places is being conducted, involving sweeping, litter picking, cleaning dustbins, and collecting floral waste — highlighting MCC’s unwavering commitment to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all public spaces.
MCC Commissioner Anindita Mitra said that PRARAMBH represent a significant step towards sustainable development and waste management in the city. By recycling floral waste and promoting eco-friendly products, the MCC is not only preserving the environment but also creating livelihood opportunities for women.
She encouraged the residents and visitors to support PRARAMBH and contribute to collective efforts towards a greener and cleaner Chandigarh.
By supporting such initiatives, citizens contribute to a cleaner and greener environment while encouraging sustainable practices in their daily lives, she said.
The initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible waste management and highlights how small actions can have a positive impact on the community and the environment.
Arpan SHG focuses on collecting, segregating, and recycling floral waste generated by religious institutions. Through innovative techniques, the initiative aims to transform these discarded flowers into useful products such as incense cones, Govardhan diyas, and various other recycled items. This not only addresses the issue of waste management but also promotes the concept of a circular economy.
Mitra said: “We urge everyone to support and actively participate in the sustainable revolution to keep the city clean. Together, citizens can create a greener, cleaner, and more prosperous future for generations to come. We continue to pursue various initiatives and partnerships to create a harmonious and eco-friendly environment for its residents and visitors.”
