A day after Haryana Government announced a job for the elder brother of Army constable Mandeep Singh, who was killed by militants in Jammu & Kashmir last year, the martyr’s family on Friday alleged that they were insulted by the BJP-led State Government.
The martyr’s widow, Prerna alleged that she was subjected to humiliation after she demanded the Haryana Government her right for job on compensatory grounds.
She was asked to give a written undertaking saying she did not marry her brother-in-law and nor will she in the future, said Prerna, who is employed as a constable with Haryana Police.
“I am not asking for any job, money or promotion. Getting respect is important,” she said while talking to the mediapersons here.
Prerna further said, “I am getting threat letters, if anything happens to us, who will be responsibleIJ My husband fought a dozen terrorists,
why has his sacrifice been forgottenIJ”
All India Anti-Terrorist Front chairman MS Bitta, who was accompanying martyr’s family alleged that the BJP Government in Haryana had insulted the family of army jawan Mandeep Singh by delaying monetary compensation and mistreating his widow.
Mandeep Singh, a jawan in the Sikh regiment was martyred in the Kashmir Valley in 2016. Mandeep’s body was mutilated and the jawan was beheaded. Mandeep’s mother Nirmala Devi, wife Prerna and elder brother Sandeep were present at the Press conference.
Bitta said the ex gratia promised to Mandeep’s family was given only in February and the cheque was given through the Red Cross.
“The Government had announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia. The family did not ask for it, but that too was given in February. But first, they were asked to complete several formalities,” he said.
He also said, “Prerna is constable in Haryana police. She is an MA. What stops the Government from promoting her to the post of Inspector or DSP. We have not come before the media to seek something, but only to highlight the insult which the family has faced.”
