Punjab Congress wanted the party cadre to celebrate the birthday of former party’s national president, Rahul Gandhi, that falls on June 19, by undertaking social work initiatives across the State.
“In view of unbearable pain and difficulties endured by citizens during the second COVID wave, Rahul Gandhi, this year, has decided to not celebrate his birthday. He has also appealed to the partymen to avoid any ostentatious activity like cake-cutting, sloganeering, and putting up banners or posters to instead utilize the resources to provide help and succour to those in need and those who have lost their source of livelihoods to the COVID onslaught,” said Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday.
Jakhar has also appealed to the entire Congress leadership to distribute medical kits, masks, sanitizers, and ration kits to celebrate Rahul’s birthday. The leaders could also visit affected families who have lost their loved ones to Covid to provide relief and a healing touch to them, he added.
As a part of the same, Punjab Youth Congress has announced to give scholarships to the children affected by corona to mark Rahul Gandhi's 51st birthday.
“Punjab Youth Congress would provide scholarships to the children affected during the corona times across the State for which a list has been prepared,” said Punjab Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon. He said that 250 children from all over the State would be provided a scholarship facility for which district-level functions would be organised.
