Brushing aside the speculations of Congress gaining strength with the merger of Manpreet Singh Badal-led People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that the merger is not going to help Congress in any way.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a conference organised by Indian Medical Association in Phagwara, the Chief Minister said that he failed to understand how a single person without anyone’s support could help the Congress party in improving its poll prospects in 2017.
Hitting hard at Manpreet Singh Badal, the Chief Minister said that how a person could succeed in his life without any ideology, principle or stand.
The merger of Manpreet Singh Badal is being seen as a big gain in the strategy of Congress Chief Capt Amarinder Singh, who has been repeating for quite some time that a grand alliance in Punjab was required. After merger of PPP, Congress has been claiming that now the party will make advances to bring BSP and CPI-CPM in the alliance.
Reacting on the prospects of Aam Aadmi Party in the next assembly elections in the state, the Chief Minister said that AAP was a party of fugitives which had no future in Punjab.
He said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has proved to be a biggest failure on all fronts and how such party could dare to befool the innocent electorate in Punjab.
Confirming to go in the 2017 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP, the Chief Minister said that the SAD-BJP alliance was everlasting and both the parties should not be seen as different from each other.
He added that the tried and tested alliance between both the parties was a unique phenomenon of the Indian democratic system, which has passed every litmus test in last few decades.
