PPP chief Manpreet Singh Badal’s mother-in-law Dr Shawinder Kaur Johal was injured badly after an unidentified sports utility vehicle hit her in Sector 10 on Friday evening when she was out for an evening walk.

After the incident was reported, the police swung into action. According to an eyewitness a white Range Rover with a Chandigarh registration number sped away from the spot after hitting the senior citizen. According to the police, Shawinder was out for an evening walk and crossing the road, when hit by the Range Rover.  She was rushed to Sector 16 General Hospital, from where she was referred to PGIMER.

She has suffered a fracture in the left knee after the accident. The doctor attending on the patient said that she is conscious and is out of danger.“The CCTV footage of the area is being scrutinized thoroughly by the police but no clue has been found from the footage yet as the incident was not recorded in the camera,” said Harjeet Kaur, SHO. Johal was found lying unconscious on the road by one of her family friends, who rushed her to Government Multi Specialty Hospital Sector 16, from where she was referred to PGIMER.  The condition of victim is stable, said SHO. SHO said that as per the eye witnesses, victim was hit by a white colour range rover car bearing Chandigarh registration number.  Since the number of range rover cars is very limited, we will zero in to find the accused at the earliest.“A case under Section 279 and 337 of IPC has been registered against the unknown assailant and further investigations are under progress,” said Anil Joshi, DSP Chandigarh police.
