The Congress and the People’s Party of Punjab’s (PPP) joint candidate Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday moved the Election Commission seeking transfer of Bathinda zonal IG (Intelligence) Jatinder Jain, zonal IG Bathinda Paramraj Singh Umranangal, and Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar alleged them for favouring the SAD-BJP candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Manpreet, in his complaint to the election commission, has asserted that the three Punjab police cops are working for Bathinda MP and SAD candidate Harsimrat, the daughter-in-law of chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, and demanded their “immediate transfer”.
Acting on his complaint, the Commission has asked the Principal Secretary (Home) to submit a report within 24 hours. In another complaint by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), the party has sought the removal of Muktsar District Transport Officer Sandeep Rishi, who has been appointed as lambi Returning Officer.
The party in its complaint, filed by PPCC office secretary Nirmal Rampal, alleged that Rishi is “blue eyed boy of the Badal Family”, and he should be transferred out of Muktsar district and Bathinda Parliamentary Constituency.Besides, Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib, Ravneet Singh Bittu also filed a complaint, through his advocate SS Grewal, against Punjab Deputy Advocate General Simranjit Singh Chandumajra — the son of SAD-BJP candidate from Anandpur Sahib Prem Singh Chandumajra —for campaigning for his father in his official capacity.
Substantiating his allegations with news reports, sitting MP Bittu charged Simranjit Singh for “influencing voters by using official position and in a way, using government machinery”.He urged the commission to “take immediate disciplinary action against him for indulging in political activities”.
