Manpreet Badal seeks sacking of Majithia

Punjab former Finance Minister and People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Badal on Wednesday said that the State Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia should be sacked from the State Cabinet for a fair probe into the drug racket in which his name surfaced during the investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

“Justice must not only be done but seem to be done. With Majithia’s sister Harsimrat Badal being a member of the Union cabinet and his brother-in-law Sukhbir Badal the deputy chief minister, how can the people expect free and fair probe. The situation demands that he should follow the example of former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur who resigned after his son's name cropped in a similar scandal. There should not be two sets of norms in the same government,” he said.

Manpreet, who called upon the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal regarding the same issue, said that with the ED prepared to take the investigation to a logical conclusion, it was clear that there was some substance in the allegations against Majithia.

“Even SAD’s alliance partner, BJP, which had resolved to eradicate the menace from the state, is adopting a different line in this case. BJP has been demanding the resignation of CPS Avinash Chander for the same reason but had reserved its comments in this case,” pointed Manpreet.
