A 30 year-old man allegedly made an abortive bid to sexually assault a five year-old minor girl here on Sunday. He was thrashed by a mob of angry residents and later handed over to the local police.
The accused has been identified as Nizaam, a resident of village Maloya. He is a married man and worked as a labourer in Chandigarh. The incident took place on Sunday late night at village Badheri, when the girl was on her way to a local shop to buy chocolates.
“Nizaam allegedly took the minor to an isolated place with an intention to rape her. However when the victim shouted for help, neighbors assembled there and caught him red handed. The accused was thrashed by the mob and later they handed him over to the police,” said Sarabjit Kaur, investigating officer.
Meanwhile Rajesh Sharma, a local resident said that Nizaam used to pass lewd comments whenever he saw girls. Earlier also he was warned by the locals for passing lewd comments on a girl. After recording the statement of witness and victim's parents, a case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is under progress, added Sarabjit Kaur.
