The local police have arrested a middle-aged man, who allegedly raped a five-year-old girl and left her bleeding on the roadside in Mauli Jagran, on Wednesday night. The victim was noticed by a passerby, said sources in police.
Sanjay Kumar, neighbour of the victim, took her to an abandoned area on the pretext of buying her chocolates, while she was playing outside her residence at Rajiv Colony, Panchkula. The accused then raped and abandoned her.
The accused, Sanjay aged 34, who lived alone in a rented accommodation, was drunk when he raped the girl, added sources.
The victim was traced by a passerby while she was lying in a pool of blood and her face was covered with a cloth. The person informed the local police about the abandoned girl following which she was rushed to the Government hospital in Manimajra. After thorough medical examination of the victim, doctors declared that she has been raped. Injury marks were also present on her body, said doctors.
Meanwhile, the father of the victim, a labourer, said “My daughter was playing outside the residence in the late evening. However, after sometime when she did not come back we started searching for her in the locality. After sometime, a police official informed me that my daughter has been raped and she is hospitalised.”
On Thursday afternoon, police nabbed Sanjay as the victim identified the rapist as her neighbour. The accused was produced before the district court from where he was sent for two-day police remand for further investigations in the matter, said Ram Rattan, in-charge of PP Mauli Jagran.
