Haryana Home Secretary Ram Niwas on Sunday requested the State Advocate General, Baldev Raj Mahajan, to make necessary correction in the Prakash Singh Committee’s report, which has been made available to him for placing it before Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The request has been made following a letter received from Prakash Singh, former chairman of the committee, which had submitted the report on role of officers of civil administration and police during February’s Jat reservation agitation.
A day before, the retired IPS Prakash Singh had termed as a “bona fide mistake” the inclusion of INlD MP Dushyant Chautala’s name for allegedly adding “fuel to the fire” during the stir. Singh had urged the State Government to make necessary corrections in all hard and soft copies of the report.
“As former chairman of the committee, I take full responsibility for the mistake and convey my deepest regrets for the same to Dushyant Chautala, MP,” he had said.
An official spokesman on Sunday said that Prakash Singh, had through a written communication urged the Haryana Government to make necessary correction in the inquiry report called “Prakash Singh Committee Report Part-1” in chapter 4, paragraph 4.3, statement attributed to MP Dushyant Chautala.
He said that Prakash Singh has mentioned in his letter, “It was brought to my notice that Dushyant Chautala,MP had not made any such statement. The Director General of Police, Haryana was thereupon requested to check the original audio-video record.
He has since done that and conveyed to me that, while the contents of para 4.3 (1) are correct, the statement was actually made by Digvijay Chautala and not Dushyant Chautala, as mentioned in the report. There was a mistake in conveying relevant information to the committee and the mistake was unfortunately carried forward in the report, said he.
After his name had figured in the report, Dushyant Chautala has accused Haryana Government of trying to defame him and sought an apology from CM Manohar lal Khattar.
Talking to the mediapersons, Chautala on Sunday termed the Prakash Singh Committee report as an attempt to hide the failures of the Haryana Government and to defame his party.
He reiterated that he will stick to his stand till the time three members of the committee, alongwith the Haryana Home Minister and State Home Secretary, apologies for naming him in the report without any evidence. “I would not let the fight over until all the frivolous references attributed to me in each and every copy of the report are expunged”, announced the Hisar MP. Dushyant said that not only he would take legal recourse against all six authorities, responsible in this entire matter but would also demand action from the parliamentary Privileges committee to whom the matter has been referred to.
