Perturbed over allegations over his alleged involvement in the multi-crore drug racket, Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday went to the extent of offering swearing upon his children to prove his innocence.
Playing an emotional card while addressing a gathering in his constituency after laying foundation stones for road strengthening projects, Majithia said: “I and my family are unblemished… Congress, especially Partap Singh Bajwa, are trying to malign my name and misguide people for vested political interests.” Majithia, speaking on alleged drug lord Jagdish Bhola who named him to be the kingpin of the drug racket, said that it was ironical that the Congress which has been directly responsible for shattering Akal Takht Sahib, the most revered place for Sikhs, its leaders are now claiming to swear in that sacred place.
“Congress leaders can consider Akal Takht Sahib as any ordinary building and use its name for selfish motive but I and my family have always held this seat of Miri-Piri in high esteem and will remain bound to its philosophy. My willingness to swear upon my kids is rooted in the spotless character maintained by my family since the times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh,” he added.
Brother-in-law of the SAD chief and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, said: “Bajwa, who is trying to belittle my name, has family background linked with history of drug deals, fake currency cases, illegal occupation of land, gold smuggling, coal scam, ransom deals during terrorism, Gujarat Sex scandal and many more such this graceful acts.” People were well aware that in December 2001, Akali-BJP Government arrested Bhola in Bathinda with a truck full of poppy husk, but in 2002, as and when Congress came into power, under Bajwa’s pressure Bhola was released.
