Majithia named kingpin of multi-cr drug racket

Published on:

Within a month after multi-crore drug racket kingpin Jagdish Bhola claimed involvement of three Punjab Cabinet Ministers, he named State Revenue and NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Majithia on Monday.

Addressing with media outside Mohali Court, Bhola, dismissed DSP of Punjab Police, claimed Majithia was the kingpin of the entire drug racket.

On this, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has sought registration of criminal case against Majithia and his immediate arrest, apart from his expulsion from the State Cabinet. The party has also sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the entire drug racket "in which the whole Badal family is involved".

"We have passed a resolution in the meeting of newly-constituted PPCC seeking criminal proceedings against Majithia, who has been named by drug lord Jagdish Bhola as one of the three Cabinet Ministers involved in drug racket worth Rs6,000 crore," said the State Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa. He said: "Jagdish Bhola is a link between SAD Ministers and international drug mafia… I want to ask Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal what is stopping him from ordering a CBI inquiry into the drug racket."

Bajwa said that Punjab Police has sought Interpol's assistance in the matter as the drug racket has links in other countries too. "But the Punjab Police cannot directly seek their assistance as in India CBI is the nodal agency to interact with Interpol. The case should be handed over to the CBI".

Moreover, the PPCC president said that they would move the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday to seek the CBI probe into the drug racket to expose the three Ministers in SAD-BJP government who have nexus with drug smugglers.

Responding to the development, SAD chief and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal termed it as "proper planning".  "There is a new political angle to it…We are the ones who arrested him. If we had any connection or support to this drug racket, why would we catch him… It all looks like a proper planning," said Sukhbir at a Press conference regarding NRI Sammelan.
