Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday asserted that his Governments’ top priority was to maintain law and order in the state.

“Maintaining law and order in the state is our top priority. Akali-BJP combine government has a zero tolerance towards dereliction of duty,” said Sukhbir while responding to a query regarding a recent “fake encounter” in which two brothers were shot allegedly by an Akali activist.

Rubbishing aside allegations of high-headedness by Punjab Police officials, Sukhbir said that it may well be observed that misconduct, dereliction of duty and failure to exercise proper supervisory control has made many officials face the music.

“Actions against the erring officials are not limited to routine enquiries or suspensions rather they were dismissed for their lapses, so none would dare to misuse his office,” said Sukhbir while interacting with the media after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple.

Sukhbir, accompanied by his wife and Union Food Processing Industry Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, said: “In fact, maximum dismissals of guilty officials under Article 311(2) of the Indian Constitution have been ordered during Akali-BJP regime.”

PUNJAB TO HONOUR MEDAl WINNERS

Deputy Chief Minister also announced that the state government will soon honour all the medal winners of Commonwealth and Asian Games belonging to the state.

Sukhbir, who is also holding the sports portfolio, said: “Punjab government will honour all Punjabi players who have won medals in the Asian and Commonwealth games.”

The winners from Punjab would get Rs 26 lakh, Rs 16 lakh and Rs 11 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in a special felicitation ceremony to be held very soon, he said.

Punjab is proud of its sportspersons who have brought laurels to the country and the State, he added.
