A ludhiana court on Monday issued summons to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for appearance in person before the court in a case filed by Income Tax Department.
The summons was issued by the court of Judicial Magistrate Jaapinder Singh asking the Chief Minister to appear before the court on July 20 in a case filed by the Income Tax Department against him and his son Raninder Singh.
The case was filed in 2016 under section 277 of the Income Tax Act and sections 177 and 181, 186, 187, 193 and 199 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ranjiv Vashishta.
The court, on the previous hearing on April 7, had said that it would decide on, the next date, April 24 regarding summoning Capt Amarinder Singh.
Capt Amarinder had alleged that it was a case of political vendetta by the BJP Government. He had even said that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was behind the move launched to tarnish his image ahead of Punjab elections.
