Ahead of the ludhiana civic body polls on February 24, Congress leader and his supporters have allegedly attacked lok Insaaf Party (lIP) chief and MlA Simarjit Singh Bains on Sunday.
Atam Nagar MlA, Bains was allegedly attacked by the Congress leader Kamaljit Karwal and his supporters in ludhiana.
Condemning the incident, lIP’s ally, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA and the leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Khaira said that this was the latest modus oprendi of the Congress government to intimidate its political opponents through violent means.
“The Captain government has purposely delinked the ludhiana Municipal Corporation poll from other corporations with the aim to hijack the elections through misuse of official machinery,” he said.
Khaira said that it was saddening to note that while more than 200 Congress goondas led by Karwal attacked Simarjit Bains, in a private premise at Model Town, the police is acting like a mute spectator.
“I have spoken to DGP Suresh Arora and ludhiana Commissioner RN Dhokhe and warned them that in case the police did not immediately arrest the Congress goondas, AAP-lIP would be forced to sit on a dharna and gherao the office of Commissioner Police ludhiana tomorrow,” said Khaira. Khaira said that this was nothing but rape and murder of democracy in Punjab, and “this will never be tolerated and we will fight against this tyranny till our last breath”.
He urged Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to personally intervene and ensure justice to Bains.
