Keeping an eye on the collection of revenue in the State, Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu on Tuesday pulled up the revenue officials giving them another fifteen days to improve the functioning of the department.
The Minister said the Government is keeping a strict vigil on the performance of revenue authorities and low performing officers will be strictly dealt with. Presiding over a meeting of the District Excise and Taxation Commissioners on Tuesday, he said serious lapses had been found in the performance of the officers in certain districts, especially in terms of VAT registration. While in some districts 76% target of VAT registration had been achieved, in some only 10% of the target had been done.
Capt Abhimanyu said that Government was keen to improve revenue generation and clear the backlog of pending tax evasion cases with the help of OTS or Amnesty schemes. The revenue department has been given every possible help to realise the targets of revenue generation. Haryana Government has set a target of `38,929 crore rupees collection through taxes this year. Giving a strict message to the officers, he said they were new but not unaware or inexperienced.
