lOP writes to CM, asks to stop "cow politics"

Taking a dig at BJP-led Haryana’s Government declared goal of cow protection, Indian National lok Dal, State’s main opposition party on Tuesday asked the State Government not to indulge in “cow politics” and exploit the sentiments of the people for garnering political support.

Raising the issue of death of more than 25 cows at a Government-run gaushala in Kurukshetra recently, leader of Opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Chautala on Tuesday shot off a letter to Chief Minister Manohar lal, criticizing the latter for his Government’s failure to ensure cow protection.

In his letter, the leader of Opposition said, “I am sure that you must be aware of the shocking news about the deaths of cows in a gaushala of Kurukshetra. Similar news has been reported from other districts too. If you recall, protection and welfare of the pashudhan was one of the declared goals of your Government.”

“The death of cows in Kurukshetra, is a matter of concern, shame and calls for penance. The cows reportedly died, because the gaushala housing them had become too slushy, due to incessant rain. It is a slur for Haryana, a State that prides in its Pashudhan,” said Chautala, in a strongly-worded letter.

Notably, rains had led to water-logging in the cow shelter at Kurukshetra’s Mathana village and a number of cows had got stuck in the swampy land and died. While few others had starved to death, many more had fallen sick due to miserable conditions at the Government run cow shelter in the village.

Earlier also, the leader of opposition had written to the Chief Minister alleging extortion of money in the name of cow welfare in the State.
