Days after declaring that efforts would be made to root out corruption from the department, the recently-appointed Punjab local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi on Thursday suspended Urban local Bodies deputy director Bhajan Singh and superintendent Jaspal Singh on alleged corruption charges.

Acting on a complaint filed by a former department official Sham lal Kamboj accusing the duo of demanding bribe of Rs three lakh in June for getting some work done, the Minister issued the suspension orders. Joshi also deputed ludhiana Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rahul Tiwari as inquiry officer for further investigation into the allegations.  He said that corruption and indiscipline would not be tolerated and the guilty officers would be not spared.

In the official statement, Joshi reiterated his resolve to weed out corruption in the rank and files of the department, besides hassle free and time bound delivery of services to citizens. The Minister said that he had received several complaints regarding corrupt practices in the local Bodies department and government officers demanding bribe for delivery of services.
