Taking strong exception to the reports pouring in regarding inadequate infrastructure in Punjab’s Government hospitals especially dealing with dengue patients and also doctors sending patients for clinical examination outside Government health institutions, the State Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani on Tuesday warned the doctors to be more responsive while handling dengue patients.
“Any kind of laxity on the part of doctors would not be tolerated,” he made it clear.
Jayani said that the Punjab Government was providing free investigation and treatment to dengue patients.
Besides, the Health department on Tuesday issued a fresh advisory to all the civil surgeons to intensify vector control measures in view of the recent rains. In the advisory, it has been directed that in view of rain forecast by the Indian Meteorology Department, there is a possibility of water stagnation in containers and disposed plastic and junk material giving rise to breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
“It is advised that the vector control measures need to be intensified to contain the problem of dengue. All concerned officials and departments have been asked to intensify the ongoing efforts to check dengue,” it added.
Sending across a clear message to all the civil surgeons, the Minister said that the civil surgeons would be held directly responsible if any of the diagnostic machines was found out of order.
Besides, he has also asked them to ensure complete medical facilities in the hospitals mainly in especially created isolation wards for the dengue patients.
Jayani has asked the Civil Surgeons to ensure that no patient suffering from fever or suspected to have dengue should be denied treatment and the bed strength, if needed, should be increased to accommodate all patients who are visiting the hospitals for treatment for suspected dengue.
