The next time you waste drinking water, you may end up in jail or will at least be fined in Haryana. For, the State Government is all set to bring in a law to take strict action against wastage of water.

Haryana Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh on Wednesday said that the State Government will bring in a law in the next State Assembly session to take strict action against those who waste drinking water.

Though the Government is still working out the modalities for bringing in a law, I have suggested atleast three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs2,000 for wastage of water, said the Minister while addressing a Press conference here.

Recently, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar was himself embroiled in a controversy over use of around a thousand litres of water to prepare a helipad, at a time when the State faced water shortage. Around a thousand litres of water were reportedly used in preparing a helipad for Khattar’s chopper in Yamunanagar.

Meanwhile, the Minister also said that for the first time in Haryana, it has been decided to use green technology for construction of roads.

He said that green technology is being used for construction of a 5-kilometre road from Hansi to Sultanpur and there is a plan to use this technology for construction of roads in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari and Karnal this year.
