The Kurukshetra University Teachers Association’s (KUTA) Executive Committee has decided to participate in the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on August 7 to press for the acceptance of their long pending demands. This decision was taken in a meeting of KUTA held on Monday in its office.

KUTA President Dr. Parmesh Kumar said that All India Federation of University and College Teacher’s Organisation (AIFUCTO) has given this nation wide call in view of the long pending demands of the teachers working in Universities and Colleges of India.

He added that a large number of teachers of KU will also hold demonstration at KU campus on August 7 in support of AIFUCTO demands.

“The main demand of AIFUCTO is immediate constitution of UGC 7th Pay Review Committee and restoration of old pension scheme to ensure social security of teachers” said Parmesh.

The other demands of AIFUCTO include parity in the age of retirement of teachers which is 65 years in the country, scraping of API system (Academic Performance Indicator) for  the promotion of teachers, grant of five advance increments to teachers having Ph.D. degree without NET at entry level, release of 100% grant for pay and pension of University teachers by the State Government, Conversion of Teachers  working under self finance scheme (SFS) into budgeted one, informed Secretary  KUTA Dr. Naresh Kumar.

The acute shortage of teaching faculty in the higher education institution in the country is also a matter of great concerns for AIFUCTO.

Dr Parmesh Kumar said the state government should also appoint a permanent vice chancellors in the universities as early as possible where the VC’s have already resigned, including KU.
