Kurukshetra varsity to introduce e-governance on campus

Kurukshetra University (KU) will be one of the first universities to have e-governance and work charter, on its campus from the new academic session, said lt Gen (Retd) Dr DDS Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor on Thursday.

Talking about the plans chalked out for the new session, Sandhu said that admissions for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses had been announced.

This year there would be a single prospectus for 20 different courses, which will save students from burning a hole in their pocket and more intra discipline courses will be encouraged to get better job placement to the students.

However, this year the admission would be carried out both online and manually, but the online applications were being encouraged by providing various incentives to the students who are applying for admissions online, he added. To boost research within the institute, around 50 minor projects will be given to assistant professors and an amount of Rs50 lakh has been set aside for this purpose.

Sandhu said, “In the academic council meeting of the university it was decided that admission will not be given to undergraduate students in 5th, who have not qualified all the papers of the first semester. It has also been decided to minimise the number of days spent in conducting various exams by readjusting the subject combinations and sticking to academic calendar.” Talking on the issue of financial crunch being faced by the varsity, the V-C said all efforts were in place to generate more revenues and the students would not be overburdened as a consequence of it.
