Unfazed by the opposition attack, the newly appointed Congress secretary in-charge of Punjab party affairs Asha Kumari on Monday clarified that she was here to stay.
Rejecting the demands for her resignation, she said that she had party chief Sonia Gandhi's “full mandate”.
“I have been given full mandate by the Congress president and vice-president to work for the party in Punjab,” she said after her meeting with the party chief Sonia Gandhi at the national capital.
Kumari, niece of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, accused the BJP, AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal of unnecessarily making an issue out of a “non-issue”.
“BJP is scared of us. It is a personal property dispute. BJP has no agenda on its list, why is it interfering in our internal mattersIJ” asked Kumari, the four-term legislator from Dalhousie.
She said that BJP was free to allege what they like but “it is not the truth”.
Coming down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party, she said: “AAP is not going to decide who is going to lead from Congress in the state.”
Claiming that the party was “very much geared up to form the government in Punjab” and her “controversy” would have no adverse fallout “at all”, Kumari said: “I am certain that with people like Ambika Soni and Amarinder Singh ji, Punjab has no dearth of leaders or workers.”
