Department of Geography, Kurukshetra University is organising an International Conference of Punjab Geographers on October 4-5, 2013. The conference will be attended by about 400 delegates. The congregation of geo-scientists drawn from 5 countries will deliberate in details on the theme, “Disasters, Natural Resource Management and Socio-economic Development”. Prof SP Kaushik, Convenor of the Conference, said Disasters are indeed becoming an issue of growing concern worldwide. “The frequency and destructive impacts of disasters are increasing as a result of combination of various factors ie concentration of people and accumulation of assets in vulnerable areas, degradation of natural environment and increasing population pressure in marginal areas,” added Prof Kaushik.
