Workshop on gender sensitive society organised in PU

Chandigarh: The recent happenings relating to acts of violence against women in urban locales, inhabited by highly educated and sophisticated populations, have revealed that education by itself shall not bring in a gender sensitive society. Further, the passing of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill, 2012 in both Houses of Parliament has necessitated the efforts to generate a gender friendly, safe and respectful environment for women, at workplace in particular and society in general. With this backdrop, an event is being organised at the initiative of Vice Chancellor AK Grover, in which eminent speakers, who have made  contribution towards evolving a gender just society, shall address the audience consisting of students, faculty members, non-teaching staff and research scholars from Panjab University and colleges on April 22. The Speakers include Prof Reicha Tanwar (Member, National Consultative Committee of UGC on Women Managers in Higher Education and Director, Women Studies Research Centre, Kurukshetra University); Gurpreet Deo (IG Police, Jalandhar Range, Punjab); Naunihal Singh (SSP., UT, Chandigarh);  Senu Duggal (Jt.
