Coming down heavily on the Punjab Government, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta) on Monday claimed that despite directing three universities — Punjab Agriculture University, Punjabi Unviersity and Guru Nank Dev University — to study the number of farmers’ suicides during the year 2012 and 2013, not even a single penny was provided so far to these universities.
“The State Government, by its another order, has also directed all district collectors to provide complete report of suicide cases of the farmers every month and none of the DCs implemented these orders,” alleged BKU (Ekta) general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokari.
He said that due to delay in survey, families could not get the relief from the State Government and these families were living their lives miserably.
Sources in all the three universities confirmed that though the official letter to begin door-to-door survey has reached them, the funds have not been released. The letter stated that every university will get Rs10 lakh each for conducting the survey.PNS
